 The Jazz

Café

Date Taken: 26th June 2026

After covering Ghost-Note last month, I did what I always do and offer my photos to the support acts! I contacted LOX, he promptly responded and liked what I cooked!

So I asked him there and then if I could hit his show that was going down weeks later in anticipation of his debut album “The Eight Gates” dropping.

The rest is history.

We return to The Jazz Café once again for a full version of the performance I was captivated by weeks before.

And no support for this one, so we can jump right in. Let’s meet everyone.

Leon "Foster" Thomas

Steel Pan

Purposefully put at the front of the stage, the people adored Dr. Thomas and his performance was worthy of all the praise. And like at the Ghost-Note show, shooting him was a highlight for me.

INSXGHT – Keys

Laurie Milton – Piano

I bunch these two together for obvious reasons. They collectively cooked and had their moments during the performance.

Ben Glasser

Guitar

The most connected to LOX during the show, frequently looking over and communicating in what seemed to be purely from eye contact.

Manny Simelane

Bass

Next to Dr. Thomas, the most expressive of the band and that is definitely seen in his set.

Jansen Santana

Percussion

A late addition to the performance, percussionist Jansen Santana comes through for his first performance with the rest of the band. It’s one of those things that you don’t notice in the moment but if he disappeared halfway through you would notice it.

It was hard to capture him with my 35mm but once I changed to my 75mm I got to cooking.

And before we get to the man himself, there were a few surprise guests throughout the performance that I also want to credit:

Kpakoshonz & OPA – Talking Drums

Grifton Frobes-Amos – Trumpet

Akil Henry – Keys

Al Shaham – Guitar (Who we saw @ Blue Lab Beats' show in May!)

LOX

Drumz

The man of the moment!

I’ve seen him several times before as part of other bands for other shows. It’s interesting seeing the dynamic change from member to leader.

And it’s worth mentioning the music that he’s created here. One of the more uniquely sounding projects this year. The pacing fluctuates wonderfully and the musicianship is top notch. The majority of the people you have seen up to this point are on the album in some capacity so the jump from studio album to live show is light work.

Let’s break things up, starting with the monochromes.

And we finish off with the colour shots which really took the win in this post for me.

Thanks to LOX for the invitation to cover the biggest show of his life. The energy in that room was amazing. I’ve never seen so many younger patrons get so gassed over Jazz, it was a beautiful sight to see.

Until the next time…
