A new cook in a new location!
Off the back of linking up with friend of the journey Jashima and Rashmeet last year, I had a feeling that it wouldn't be the last time I would see Rashmeet in her element like I did that cold night in Shepherd's Bush.
Skip to a month before and Jashima hit me up to invite me to Rashmeet's headline show @ 229 on the top of Great Portland Street.
In an excellent flub, I ended up late to the support act because I went to a location that's also on Great Portland Street but was for another event I locked in around the same time!
But once I realised I had the wrong place, I bombed it up the street and eventually got in to catch the back-end of support Amrit Kaur.
And before we get to the headline, we got a little intro from Jashima! So you know I had to snap a couple for the homegirl…
We now get into the headline and as is customary, (when I can help it) we big up the band. Thanks to Jashima for the hook up…
Jan – Drums
Alex Wardill – Saxophone/Flute
Toby Pearson – Guitar
Matthew Reavley – Bass
Vishal Dixit – Keys (& Musical Director!)
And now for Rashmeet with a very cinematic entry:
If you haven’t gathered by the dress, this is not a show I typically hit. Rashmeet’s music (produced by her I should add) is Contemporary Punjabi Folk with flavours of Pop, R&B, Sufi and Electronic. Give her latest album “PARINDA” a spin. Guarantee you’ve never heard anything like it.
But past the music, her charisma as a performer is quite something to behold. The audience adored her and she was a powerful presence. As a seasoned concert-goer, she truly impressed me.
I wanted to highlight the next segment of photos just because the light in the back made for some tasty shots and I had to gass all of it.
I asked Jashima mid-show if there was anything in particular she wanted from my coverage and after initially saying no, she did mention that Rashmeet was going to do a duet with her mother!
So I wanted to highlight this moment as well. It was a great touch to the show overall.
Final few choice shots to finish my coverage:
And that was me! I had to dip before the show ended but I managed to catch Jashima on the way out and she wanted a photo, so here’s the best out of the few that were taken.
Love to Jashima and all the best for her and Rashmeet as they continue their journey together.
Until the next time…
