Ilford HP5 Plus & One In Testing…

After spending two days in London three years ago, we are back with another two day exploration of The City!

But whilst this post is titled after another, this one is different from all of my other posts.

This is the first post where I test my own recipe! I haven't got a name for it – even in this post you'll see the colour balance change as we go – but I thought it was time to make a recipe for myself.

So let's begin in Leicester Square and end at my local train station…

For those Eagle eyes, yes, Ryan was in tow! We saw "Princess Mononoke" in 4K Restoration and it was beautiful.

I also went to the Misan Harriman exhibition @ Hope93 and Dennis Morris exhibition @ The Photographer's Gallery! I highly recommend both, especially because they're five minutes away from each other.

But we now get on swiftly to Day Two where I hit two events in the space of an afternoon.

I began in Dalston's Gillett Square for The People's Festival, a free day festival by The Silhouette's Project. I actually was there last year! You can see the post about it here.

Whilst I got there 45 minutes in and wasn't as jumping as it was when I went deeper into the day last year, I still managed to get a good amount of shots. Here's a bumper pack of choice picks:

Whilst I wanted to stay for longer, I also wanted to hit the next event.

So we take a walk, shooting life around Dalston.

We head to Brixton – deep into Coldharbour Lane – for Home Radio's "Ludi Festival", curated by friend of the journey, Shari.

The day was very enjoyable. I made a few new friendships that I’d like to highlight, along with some self-portraits and Shari one time just to big her up.

Shouts to Chantelle, (Blue dress) Yaa, (All Black everything) Jahaziel (Khaki) & Roshad, (Yellow) the latter a fellow Photographer who took some pictures of me playing Ludi with my camera!

The event was very homely & intimate, like hitting a family BBQ. You could talk to anyone and the food was great. The music was top tier.

All Shari needs to do now is replace Ludi with Rummy because I suck at Ludi.

As for the recipe. I like how it looks on skin when I bump the exposure up just right.

It’s a little finicky for that reason and the colour balance visibly changes as the day grows older but I love the grain, the shadows are just right and it’s now part of the journey. I’ll seek to experiment when I can in the foreseeable future.

I don’t want it to serve a purpose like my other presets. I got two Monochromes, two for sunny days, one universal & one for night.

And then there’s… Whatever this one will be.
