So, your boy took a trip out to London once again, this time to spend a day with my best friend, unofficially celebrating his new job.
This is David.
As you may have gathered by the intro picture, we started in Hackney to hit up a little Black Owned Business Fair. Beef & Lamb patties were fire and I personally love Hackney from aesthetics alone.
Because D needed some new everyday shoes! Can’t hate on some Pumas. (Apart from the Israel stuff… Look it up.)
We kicked it for a little bit, thinking about what to do with our day… So I played about with some double exposure. I actually don’t mind how they came out!
Anyway, we took a walk down the road to Dalston. David needed a new bag, so the closest general place I could think of was Dalston Kingsland. But honestly, I just wanted a reason to go to Dalston.
I used to have family there and whilst it has changed a lot since the halcyon days of me taking a trip to see my grandmother, auntie & cousin, it still holds a place in my heart.
Also referred as the “Hackney Peace Carnival Mural”. Painted in 1985 by Ray Walker, based on the 1983 Hackney Peace Carnival. Quite possibly my favourite piece of art ever.
The estate my aforementioned extended family used to live. Quite a stark contrast going through it and then being towered over by new housing.
We then dipped to another place we enjoy, Brixton. Somewhere I have been wanting to take my camera ever since I bought it. And it didn’t disappoint…
We hit other spots including King’s Cross to eat and Canary Wharf to manifest David’s dream to work in one of those big ass glass buildings. I’ll throw the leftover photos at the end but a quick story of one photo in particular.
So we were in Canary Wharf, heading to the station in the heart of the area and as we were talking, the conversation bled into me asking D about “Backrooms”. Feel free to look it up yourself but put simply, backrooms are an urban legend/creepypasta that’s gained in popularity in recent years.
And as I asked him “D’you know about Backrooms?”, a set of double doors we walked past opened up to show this very liminal space. (Another fascinating internet thing by the way.)
You can imagine how tripped out I was seeing this open up right when I mentioned “Backrooms”…
D asked “want to walk down?”.
You got me fucked up…
