Otis Mensah @ SJQ

Date Taken: 4th May 2022

Back in North London once again. It's like the universe is telling me something.

For this outing, I headed to Servant's Jazz Quarters, round the corner from Dalston Kingsland Overground Station. A quaint little spot that hosted a good friend in Hip-Hop, Otis Mensah.

Sheffield’s Own

I forgot how I discovered Sheffield's own art-rap poet, but what I do remember is spinning his first EP "Mum's House Philosopher". I have been a fan ever since.

He may not be for everyone, but who wants to be for everyone?

Otis & Roland

This show came around right when his new EP “things i should have said a year ago” dropped which, to my knowledge, is his first project with Otis production. And compared to a previous show I saw Otis at, he seemed more at home with this set-up. When he went to his Roland SP, some shit was gonna go down. (MORE DUB ECHOES.)

siegfried komidashi

This wonderful dreaded bredrin goes by the name of siegfried komidashi. (who knew ‘siegfried’ was so hard to spell? I’ve had to spell correct it all three times…) A wonderful companion to the show Otis was putting on; a physical manifestation of Otis' respect for Jazz.

But I’m getting a little ahead of myself. It wasn’t just Otis performing.

Say hi to Treasure Bloom

Before the show, I struck up conversation with a guy from Stevenage of all places. Seemed like a cool guy.

Quickly gathered he was not only the support for the night, but it was his first time performing live since 2016!

His name is Treasure Bloom. We discussed his music and agreed that “Genre-blending” perfectly encapsulated him. I look forward to seeing what he does next.

It was a fun night. I love supporting the people I have interviewed over the years. Feels very rewarding.

Here’s the rest of the heat I took:

Thanks for coming through.

Here’s some North London graffiti & a mean Double Exposure to see you out.
