I’m going to make a proclamation off the bat in hope that it holds some weight when I say it:
This Arrested Development show is a Top 5 Jazz Café show for me.
Those that have taken a gander at this here portfolio would notice a consistent thing about me: I fucking love going to The Jazz Café. With it’s intimate space and allowing me to take photos, (up yours all o2 venues & Lafayette) it’s just a beautiful venue in my eyes.
That and they just constantly book banger artists.
The two-time Grammy-winning group is similar to the likes of Digital Underground. Where the brains of the group is one person and over the years, the other members come and go. But somehow, the quality and ethos stays the same.
In this case, the brains is Speech, a really consistent creative force when you combine his personal discography and Arrested Development’s.
And for the record, Speech has some UNDERRATED vocals.
The man is going to be 55 this year and his energy on stage – along with the people he brings along with him – make for a show that is fun from start to finish.
With the bevvy of call/response and iconic music, I just can’t get over how fun this show was for me.
So let’s jump in to some photos! I’m going to stagger them into two segments: The main set which will feature the majority of the group and then I want to highlight two individuals that really made this Arrested Development memorable for me.
And now for my MVPs of the show. You might have picked up on it already.
The vocalists alongside Speech: April & Fareedah. These women really made the show for me. April’s vocals are just outstanding. Fareedah’s general energy was live as hell. Always moving, always drawing my eye.
Bless these two. Love these women.
Even in the photos you really get what roles they’re filling and trust me when I say they filled them perfectly.
One of my favourite shows of the year for sure and one of the best in my favourite music venue.
