The Football team of my hometown were off to Wembley!
Southend United faced off Wealdstone for the illustrious Isuzu FA Trophy and I went spent the day documenting the day with friends.
The day begun @ 9am with Tyler (Plaid shirt) & Joe (Hoodie) already at our local post-breakfast.
We had to wait a while for George (Carhartt/Dickies combo) to come through who left himself 20 minutes to down two beers before we had to walk for the train. To his credit, he got it done and we made the train to link up with the rest of our primary party…
We stopped off at Liverpool Street for a reload on refreshments. Let’s meet the rest of the party: Joel, (Black/Gold) fiancée Chloe (Pink) and Paul, (Vintage jacket) Joel’s father.
My pops was also present later in the day but I didn’t get a shot of him for reasons that’ll become clear later…
We then headed over to Baker Street to hit The Globe, noted pregame pub and got more drinks in and the Southend contingent was growing the closer we got…
We then linked up with more friends! John, (sunglasses) Leon, (Blonde) Ben (Nose) & Beth. (Navy on Yellow) The latter two have been together since we were in High School! Adore the both of them…
And then it was off to Wembley!
Now… You’re probably expecting me to have photos of the game and the like. Well, that won’t be happening because Wembley is one of those places that allows personal cameras, but not professional cameras.
Before that, I met Pops and we were playing catchup so we were walking basically outside of the Wembley arena campus to find another pub because one pregame destination wasn’t enough!
As it turned out, that pub was closed.
So we went into our seating parties and split ways. After getting in the stadium AND going through a scanner, I had my camera on hand. All was fine until one security member got on my case about it. After some bartering by Tyler, we agreed that I’d have it in my bag for the duration.
I was fully comfortable with missing the game, I wasn’t there for that (which I said to the security and led to a scoff…) but it was nice that I got through.
The game? Well, have you ever seen a team win with 0 shots on target? That was Southend that day. A game Tyler, Joe & Pops unanimously declared as one of the worst games they’ve ever seen.
After that… Well. Before I get to that, let’s finish off with some shots of graffiti going by.
So about 30 minutes into the match, George got kicked out. Imagine that, you’re at a Football game and your mate manages to be the drunken idiot in a sea of drunken idiots. A true feat.
Anyways, turns out that he ended up losing his phone and eventually getting it back, but not before we were all belling him up, his girlfriend & mother hitting a couple of us up and eventually all of us leaving for home.
He made it home well after midnight, getting an Uber back.
A great wrinkle to talk about – even though it was concerning at the time – in an overall great day!
