The Silhouettes Project
@ Hackney Social
@ Hackney Social
We head to Hackney Social for a set that was the most varied in terms of subjects I took and I didn’t even get everyone!
But first, a little background…
The Silhouettes Project is, and I quote:
"a new platform for up-and-coming Hip-Hop, Soul and Jazz artists from the UK. It is not a record label or management team, it is a community project. The Silhouettes Project provides an open space – a recording studio and live venue located within the Total Refreshment Centre in Hackney, London – where MCs, singers, musicians and producers can connect and create.
The Silhouettes Project was founded by community organisers/artists Asher Korner (aka Kosher) and Jaden Osei-Bonsu (Eerf Evil) in 2019."

That’s who they are – but for me – The Silhouettes Project represents a blueprint for how music collaboration should go. Just a bunch of underrated talent joining to create something special and that’s what their first album exemplifies.
And with Vol. 2 coming sometime this year, there’s no time more perfect to spin them and the artists they put on.
Speaking of artists! Let’s dive into the set. I was figuring out how to break this down because there were so many artists/musicians coming through. I got the majority, but not all. Let’s meet a couple:
Two more chunks to go. I’m going to bunch up a the rest of the artists because I only got a couple shots of them. Included in this set include Turt, (1/2 of S. London Jazz Rap duo Summers Sons) Deema & MANIK MC.
Lastly, I wanted to highlight a member of the band that was present for the majority of the show. This is one of those subjective gazes I have as a photographer. The band Saxophonist was given a solo and whilst the lights were moving, I was getting some crispy shots. Luckily they came out amazing during editing.
I have completely forgotten her name but big love to her regardless.
