Well… Considering there's a parallel universe where I wasn't able to cover this show at all, I should be grateful that I'm here to showcase this set.
With that said, this could've been a ground-breaking set for me as I was supposed to do Green Room shots for the first time! Unfortunately, my train line wanted to shaft me – hold me up for more than 30 minutes – then get me to make a detour just to make it to One Ninety Four, located in the heart of Piccadilly.
But hey. Another opportunity will come, right now, I can cover an artist I have already, albeit during a cut-off set at Cross The Tracks last year.
But before we get to her, we have three other women that held the night down. Beginning with DJ Spinada.
After a great DJ set – so good I had Auto Shazam on – we got to our first support in Nakira.
I’ll split this set by colour & monochrome.
I took a bit of a risk using my latest recipe for this show but I think it gave character to was was mainly red hues in the lighting.
The monochrome however, bangs like it always does.
Next was Visaka who I could’ve sworn I’ve seen before. Turns out she made an appearance at the aforementioned Cross The Tracks set!
(Loving these names by the way.)
But lastly was the one and only Summer Pearl. After being at this intimate event, it was even more clear than before that her gravitas when performing live is palpable. Powerful, dexterous and her flows are top tier.
Let’s begin with the band The Anatomy however who carried their end very well.
And now for Summer Pearl herself, with an appearance of Visaka in the middle.
I went into this show nervous for the Green Room element but let me tell you, the ideas I had for it when thinking about this post were tasty. But alas.
With that said, I’m grateful for Summer Pearl’s management for hooking me up. Maybe next time…
