Tsukiji

Recipes – Part 3

The third recipe originates from the very active YouTube Photographer community. For every notable camera brand, there are a subset of Photographers on YouTube, dedicated to the documentation of their craft through the lens (pun intended) of the camera brand they feel connected to.

The "Tsukiji" recipe was created by Kebs Cayabyab. Tsukiji is/was known for it's wholesale fish market and whilst the inner market was moved to Toyusu in 2018, the smaller operations are still there, making for a great tourist destination.

Now I wish I went back to the seafront for this recipe with all that said. But for most of the time I was in the mood for taking pictures, it was dumb hot. I actually challenged myself to take pictures in and around my home during the two day heatwave we had recently.

In the video, Kebs said Tsukiji is for those that want a "warm, earthy and grainy look"; to symbolise the "festive, happy, warm and kind of gritty" nature of the Tsukiji Fish Market.

(Sorry if you don’t do bugs. It’s only one picture but I got REAL close.)

I think the recipe succeeds in what it’s supposed to do. Especially with the dry grass the heatwave sucked the green out of; that shit pops to me. The awning that made my living room darker than usual definitely helped the recipe in it’s goal.

So. Will I keep Tsukiji?

I think I will for now! I like the way it dims stuff down in the situations that require it, saves the need to play with the exposure dial; and think Kebs really hit the nail on the head with what he intended the recipe to be.

So Kebs – if you’re reading – Great job! There’s four more on the video linked in the first paragraph so you never know, I might circle back and try another Japanese-inspired recipe.
