Well it’s been nearly a year since I’ve done one of these but considering the weather here in the UK has been nice, I thought it was worth getting the Recipe coverage count to a nice, round 20!
This might be the longest time I’ve spent on one Recipe and it will definitely show in this post.
This could easily be titled “Best of June” as well considering this is all I used for the whole month.
But enough nattering! Let’s begin with one of my two favourite things…
Now these aren't really great to give commentary on the Recipe because I edited these to oblivion but I love a sunset and thought it'd be a great start.
So, what is McCurry Kodachrome? Simply put – using an excerpt from an emotional FujiXWeekly post – it's:
"a Kodachrome 64 Film Simulation Recipe based on Steve McCurry’s last roll of Kodachrome film."
Steve McCurry – for those that don't know – is one of the most prolific living photographers. He made his name covering the many wars going down post-WW2.
You may have seen his iconic "Afghan Girl" photo sometime in your life. Well, at the same time he was killing it, Eastman Kodak blessed him with one of the final rolls of Kodachrome and that is where this recipe comes in!
With D in tow, we headed up to Covent Garden for a free show featuring one of my favourite & underrated rappers in the country. But before all of that, I had to wait on him… So I took a few shots.
We then got to Covent Garden apparently early so we took a walk around the area…
But we eventually went in and got to hear some good Hip-Hop. The event was mad culture’s first ever show at Stereo in collaboration with Cinemadix and when I tell you the bar in this place is nice! Well, you’ve seen the title image.
More of that but a run through the four acts, beginning with Tapiwa:
The colours I was getting throughout the night were right up my alley. The music was too! Next was Oliver Rees who – according to one of the crew members – came down from Leeds just for the show! I respect the hustle.
Next was Bear. (with a full stop) who is one of the creators of mad culture and operates with a lot of love for the art, exemplified with his mini-monologues detailing either backstory of the next song or general comments on the industry…
Lastly was the artist I wanted to see in Birmingham’s own TrueMendous. Her wordplay is absurd and witty, there were multiple times we all shouted after a silky wordplay display. She even brought Mysdiggi on for a track! Beautiful cap-off.
I promised more shots of that beautiful bar so here are those along with a couple of random shots taken in between performances…
So for the actual test of the everyday look of this recipe, I went out for an our in a clear summer day. I would have stayed out earlier but I didn’t take sunglasses and even writing this makes my eyes hurt.
Regardless, I got some really fun stuff, mainly going back to my first love of the variety of flowers and trees…
And the back of my sister’s head.
If you have seen any of my Portra posts or my Kodachrome 64 post, you would be familiar with this kind of look. I love having one of them ready to go on my camera when it is a sunny day. So will I keep this particular version? I don’t see why not!
It’s mainly because I’m lazy but I love all the versions, however similar they may be. Expect this during a couple festival posts I have scheduled in the next couple of months. (Weather pending…)
