Let’s begin with something fun.
Below are two photos. Scroll right and then scroll left.
Dogs, eh. Should've called him Scrappy Doo the way he gets chesty with dogs bigger than him.
Anyway! Recipe Test No. 5. I wanted to try a Fujifilm recipe for once and also have something where the base was Provia. Luckily, I found one that ticked both boxes.
Provia is Fujifilm's standard simulation and I imagine is the least used out of most modern Fujifilm owners. The recipe itself came from the good folks @ FujiXWeekly; but it made me think about the nature of not just recipes, but the concept of Film Simulations on modern cameras.
One definition of 'simulation' is "the action of pretending; deception". Now, I don't really care that much about getting a one-to-one recreation of a particular film. But I can imagine this entire concepts jars a lot of purists.
"How DARE you say this is Fujichrome Sensia 100!" Is it a type of disinformation for me to reference these photos to a film that has been dead for over a decade?
Fun fact: I actually learned how to develop film in High School. In hindsight, I wished I respected it more, but damn is this life much more convenient.
Oh, right; whose the yout? We'll get to that.
I tested this recipe in two distinct sessions: The first was with the dog, just before sunset. As dog walks go, it was eventful and gave me a lot of time to get some clean shots.
I took advantage of nearby tall flowers & grass and went manual focus for some shots, including the ones above.
I liked the colours that came out of the day.
How about another slideshow?
One of the more fun half hour of photo taking I’ve had for sure. Here’s the remaining heat from the session:
Not to say no to an opportunity to take photos, I tagged along a trip into the woods with D & (some of) his family:
From Left: Christian, Priya, Camile, D & Ashton. Ashton & Christian are Camille's sons. Priya is daughter of another sister of the clan: Mazi. D just ugly.
We took the scenic route, (to Cam’s irritation) but we made it to this nice area for exploration; a series of small crevasses where you can’t help but try and clear them.
For a three year old, however, a slight incline sufficed:
In between the exploring, jumping, gathering and football, we got some photos of everyone at Camile’s – shall we say – request:
As for the recipe. It’s fine; it certainly makes Provia better than the base. I have some B & W recipes coming soon, so while this may or may not leave my setup for a bit, it might get into my main six when all is said & done.
But I did use it for Notting Hill Carnival so that’s a good sign!
Nevertheless, the quest continues.
