This test was one I was looking forward to. A real test of taste for me. As a person that grew up with the rise of Instagram, my tastes have fluctuated in the past decade.
Go down to the furthest depths of my Instagram and you will find the most heavily filtered photos you’ll ever see.
Whilst I would never change that period of Photography life, man is it jarring to look back at.
But what does my old IG habits have to do with Chrome Bypass?
Chrome Bypass is an original banger by the good people @ FujiXWeekly. Like with weed strains, Chrome Bypass is a combo of two other original recipes "LomoChrome Metropolis" & "Bleach Bypass". For the sake of time, basically high in contrast and low in colour saturation.
I thought this recipe would be approaching “2012 Charlie on Instagram” territory. But I know how to edit now so there was no need to sweat.
The combination of recipes produces some interesting photos. But I will say it was a struggle to find what this recipe is good for me personally. I did two sessions with it: One with the dog and one down the local High Street.
Now, when comparing this to other recipes I have done, it’s clear that this has a unique essence to it. It’s actually taken until writing this all out and seeing them stacked above for me to rate them.
I especially like the contrast between the sky and architecture. The blues really do something for me.
But with all that said, it took me until halfway through the High Street session to realise how I can release the full potential of this recipe for myself.
Playing with the shadows.
While it’s only four, (14 photos overall) I really like how these came out. The shadows, the contrast/saturation battle going on. It’s mint.
But is that enough for me to keep it?
Not right now; if I’m in a city and the sun is out, I will definitely have this in mind. But I think moments like that will be too far in between for me to consistently have it as part of my main six setups.
