We head to just round the corner from Tottenham Court Road to The Lower Third, a spot that I have been wanting to hit for a few years now but until now, never got the chance to.
As a location it didn’t disappoint but we’ll get to that later. After some texts and walking around with a freelance promoter, I got my AAA pass. If I wanted I could’ve hit backstage and everything. Whilst I didn’t do that, I did use it for a unique opportunity.
But again, we’ll get to that later. We begin with the first of two DJs with an hour each. Both setting the tone very nicely as all good DJs should.
Problème
It was at this point where I was standing in the back of the dancefloor asking myself: “I wonder if I can leave the spot, get food and come back.”
So I went upstairs and asked and they said I can do that.
Never have I ever been able to leave an event and come back. What a blessing it was to go get food for half an hour and come back right for the headline.
Typically I would have to not eat until I get home! Honestly such a highlight. If I could do this every time I covered an event life would be significantly easier.
So after eating halfway through Simms' set, I arrived bang on 9pm, ready for the headline.
I’ve split her sets into four: two colour, two mono. Two with my 75mm & two with my 35mm.
That was the 75mm set.
The lighting in this place was so freaking good. I was having such a great time shooting. I even got a few banger motion blur shots, something that I’m trying to incorporate into every concert I hit. (If it warrants it.)
But it’s now time to zoom out a little with the 35mm. Lemme know which focal length you prefer.
And to finish, a small set at the end of the show to highlight a key part of Mysie’s recent content output: Having her father come through to wine his waist to her music. Safe to say, it got the people in hysterics.
I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this evening as much as I did but with the photos coming out as well as they did, combined with Mysie absolutely bossing it with her performance. The evening was a joy from start to finish.
I remember spinning her recent EP thinking it was decent but the way she brought it as a live set was something different. I just love it when an independent artist thrives in a lane they’ve built for themselves. It was a pleasure to cover it.
