In more ways than one, this is a special post for me! This is the first time doing a show in the legendary Scala, just down the road from King’s Cross. I have gone there a couple of times in years past, most notably seeing Slum Village years ago.
But for some reason as I got there for the subject of this post, I was surprised at how compact everything was. It dawned on me that I was thinking of KOKO which is incidentally a 20-25 minute walk from King’s Cross.
But anyways, we were there on time and ready for the support.
And well I’ll be! Look who it is!
The duo that I just keep getting moments to capture!
If this is your first time here, I have covered BLB several times in the past few years. I'll just go ahead and link-bomb below:
But they were here on a support basis this time and with just a 30-minute set, they still cooked.
But it wasn’t just BLB that were on stage, they brought out some rappers to do their thing and it was at a complete surprise that a friend of the journey was featuring!
I have covered SANITY before in a show I don’t think I ended up posting but I’ve been seeking to cover her properly in some capacity for years.
Safe to say this was a nice surprise!
Along with SANITY came AKS, an artist that I have known about for a while and was good making his acquaintance after the set.
Next was the main event and I was happy that I could cover the band in the way I like to. We begin with them:
Drums – Conrad Real
Guitar – Thaddeus Turner
Bass – Gerald Turner
Keys – Darrius Willrich
Sax – Carlos overall
And now for the trio that I have been wanting to see properly since they supported Ms. Lauryn Hill @ The O2 years ago.
Digable Planets are one of my favourite Hip-Hop groups. Their chemistry, their vibe, everything about them is just right up my alley. I was so hyped for this one and wanted to do my best. Let’s go through each member:
I’d just like to interject briefly to say this is one of my favourite sets of the year. I adore Ladybug Mecca. One of my favourite voices in music and some of my favourite photos of the year feature here…
And to finish I wanted to throw in a couple of photos that feature two or more of them.
Thanks to Sapna for getting me through the door.
On top of the show itself, I got to give SANITY a hug after her set, talked to BLB after their set to show my appreciation and also dapped up Romesh Ranganathan of all people on the way to King’s Cross after the show!
Just a fascinating and memorable night all around.
