I hate winter.
Maybe it's because Britain has simply no infrastructure to adequately deal with it apart from "Stick the heating on", but it's just miserable for me most of the time.
But with that said, winter provides some unique photography. With the sun going down earlier in the day, you get more opportunities for sunsets. (Vol. 1 of this miniseries exemplified this)
Photography doesn't discriminate cold weather like my sinuses and below-average ability to retain heat does.
It creates a sense of urgency. An urgency to get that shot right when you find it. For me, I want to get that shot and keep it moving. The pace for me changes rapidly in the moment.
Unlike Vol. 1, there’s not much rhyme or reason to this set apart from the fact that it was all during the winter time.
But I’m going to do something a little different and stagger the set, talking about my favourites…
This final one above is one of my favourites of the dog. He definitely enjoys the winter months more than I do. As long as it hasn’t rained…
Believe it or not, he’s not the photogenic you may think he is. It takes some coercing to get him to look at the lens. I don’t like forcing it, so when he walks off when I say ‘stay’, I just have to firm it.
As a serial landscape taker, I will admit I prefer winter trees than summer trees. Having the sun backdrop them do something for me.
Silhouetting can be a beautiful thing, especially in the winter.
One more to leave on and finish this miniseries. I was walking the dog and there was this new family, sitting on a bench, watching the sunset.
The way the sun draws an outline of their heads is what makes it great for me. Watching the parents look down at the baby in the middle of them. A great advert for the special feeling photography brings…
