Welcome to the other monochrome recipe I have recently tried! If you haven't spun my previous post, feel free to do so because that is where the backstory lies.
This recipe is an interestingly named bespoke one by the good people @ FujiXWeekly that doesn't exactly lend to the Noir that most people think of which is more moody but regardless, I wanted something different and I got that.
I used this recipe for two days reasonably close to each other but for two very different reasons.
Let's begin with Day 1…
Conference
I take a trip to White City to hit the Black Writers Guild’s yearly conference. I had a lot of thoughts about the event itself, but I wanted to be as attentive as possible so I didn’t take as many photos as I wanted in hindsight.
But before I get into the flurry of photos I took whilst conference photos were taken, I wanted to do something a little different and take pictures whilst my train over was on the move…
But I eventually made it to the event.
I came out of it with a lot to think about. So much in fact that by the time the event ended, I was a little mentally exhausted.
But I made a couple of friends and I would like to put you onto them!
I made a few more but again, I didn’t take advantage. I wasn’t Photographer Charlie during the majority of this event.
But there were a few more I took outside an old BBC building and some of these are some of my favourites of the year.
So many Black people in one space with various looks and features to them. Shout out to that family in the last one. As I took that photo, the mothers were asking what was going on and started gassing it up to the girls in tow. Great moment.
& Banh Mi
I tried the train thing again…
I’m not sure if you notice but there’s a fun warping that happens when you’re going at speed. I kind of dig it. Anyways! To the actual day.
We head to Curzon Cinema @ Russell Square to see a film called “Bushman”. Feel free to look up the story and background yourself but put simply, I left the film surprised that in this world where valuable texts are lost every day due to lack of preservation, I could see this one in a beautifully intimate environment.
But I wasn’t alone. Friend of the journey Ryan came through too! You’ll get to see him later but for now, we get to another walkabout where we leave the cinema and walk to Soho.
Fun fact: the picture of Ryan’s foot was on complete accident but I mess with the angle. We agreed that it gives off a care package EP that rappers drop.
Call it “Steppin' Out”. Big ups to Joe Jackson. GTA Vice City players know what I’m cooking.
Anyways, we get to Tottenham Court Road, on our way to our destination in Soho.
We arrive at our destination Gosh! (Exclamation mark included) which was an interesting place. I don’t know how we do it but every time me & Ryan kick it, it is never the same as the other link ups.
The spot was a fun space, especially in the basement where as you see, is literally stacked with classic comics. Nerds, prepare to take all these covers in.
Upstairs there was a shelf full of Peanuts books. One day I will return and cop them ALL.
Anyway, once Ryan cops what he wanted to cop, he puts me onto another fire food spot in “Keu” where I try Banh Mi for the first time. Think Subway 6-inch where the bread is baguette and the filling is just Vietnamese food. Meat, savoury accents, a banger sandwich.
But the location was a prime spot for photos of people walking about… And a dog.
After great food and even better conversational food, we walk to Embankment where we part ways.
I finish with one of my favourite photos and coincidentally the last one I took.
Looking Out.
